Fundraiser - Historical Manuscripts and Endangered Languages Project
Dear ZTFE Members
You will be pleased to learn that our initiative to fundraise for the Historical Manuscripts and Endangered Languages Project has been successful.
Our call for sponsorship for the concert raised more than double the amount sought, with some people sending in generous donations as well; and the concert was a success, attracting a new audience to Zoroastrian Centre and thrilling some of our older members for whom Qawwali brought back fond memories.
We have raised £3,760 for Dr Saloumeh Gholami’s work in Yazd and Kerman, where she is rescuing old Zoroastrian manuscripts, restoring them with the help of volunteers and scientific institutions, and also finding a home for them in university archives and in a special museum that is being built for the purpose. She is also recording and cataloguing - again with the help of many volunteers - fast-disappearing languages spoken by the Zarthoshti communities of Yazd and Kerman.
As Dr Ghoulami put it, “the fascinating literary and oral heritage of Zarthoshtis in Iran is vanishing in front of our eyes in the homeland of Zarathushtra. … The aim of this project is to ensure its long-term preservation and wider access. Preservation is essential to the survival and development of Zarthoshti culture and scholarship.”
We thank everyone who helped to contribute to the success of our fundraising for Dr Ghoulami’s project: the sponsors, the donors, those who came to the concert, well wishers, our wonderful volunteers.
Best wishes
